LE 03 - Theory X and Y Management Scenarios
An organization is a group of people called as employees working together at different levels to attain the goal set. To control and manage people so that they can work constructively and towards goal, managers are appointed at different levels. They check, instruct, control and motivate employees in best possible way. But there are different scenarios of Manager employees relations which can be listed below:
Employees:
Theory X - Employee is lazy and demotivated.
Theory Y - Employee is not lazy and motivated.
Managers:
Theory X - Manager thinks that employee is lazy.
Theory Y - Manager thinks that employee is not lazy and motivated.
Scenarios:
- Employee: X Manager: X
- Employee: Y Manager: X
- Employee: X Manager: Y
- Employee: Y Manager: Y
Scenario 1: Employee: X Manager: X - :
In the above scenario, employee is lazy and management also thinks that employees are lazy and demotivated. This condition is not good for the working of an organization. In all negative attitude prevails in whole organization which will never lead to the success path. Management needs to change their attitude to motivate their employees so that they can work constructively.
Scenario 2: Employee: Y Manager: X - :
In the above scenario, employee is not lazy and motivated but management thinks that their employees are lazy and demotivated. such condition is worst among all for any organization because employees are working perfectly but due to management concerns they will get demotivated. management will think that employees' performance are not up to desired level and this may lead to high attrition in the company.
Scenario 3: Employee: X Manager: Y - :
In the above scenario, employees are lazy but management thinks that employees are not lazy and they are asset to the organization. this scenario is somewhat not good for organization but due to management attitude towards their employee, they can be motivated to work towards goal set.
Scenario 4: Employee: Y Manager: X - :
In the above scenario, employees are not lazy and motivated and management also thinks the same. This is the best scenario for the organization where employees can bring wonderful results to the organization.
In all, fourth scenario is the best one and all organization related to other 3 scenarios should try to achieve 4th scenario. This will bring positivity among all and leads to excellence.
Theory X and Y refers to only MANAGERS..
