Khan Academy: The Future of Education

"An innovation is one of those things that society looks at and says, if we make this part of the way we live and work, it will change the way we live and work."  - by Dean Kamen

Every human on earth is living for a cause. A cause to cherish, a cause to work upon. But few of them can understand the real job and work to contribute to society. Salman khan is one of those people who understood the need of the society and gave it an entirely new way to learn and educate with a mission "to provide high quality education to anyone, anywhere."

“Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry.”

Khan Academy, A entrepreneurial venture of Salman Khan halps in educating people in entirely different way. They have a gamut of more than 3200 videos covering different field education like mathematics, medicine, history, finance etc. With the help of youtube videos he started capturing different concepts into video and made available to whole world. They not only restricted to just videos but brought new ideas to learn concepts easily.
In late 2004, Khan began tutoring his cousin Nadia in mathematics. When other relatives and friends sought similar help, he decided it would be more practical to distribute the tutorials on YouTube Their popularity there and the testimonials of appreciative students prompted Khan to quit his job and focus on the tutorials

 The Khan Academy include
  • a video library with over 3200 videos in various topic areas and over 165 million lessons delivered. These videos are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-ShareAlike 3.0 License.
  • automated exercises with continuous assessment; there are 320 practice exercises, mainly in math.
  • peer-to-peer tutoring based on objective data collected by the system, a process that will be projected in the future.
  • Teachers and coaches can access all of their students' data. You can get a summary of class performance as a whole or dive into a particular student's profile to figure out exactly which topics are problematic. The class profile lets coaches glance at their dashboard and quickly figure out how to best spend their time teaching.
  • The knowledge map shows all of the challenges, skills, and concepts.

With the help of Khan academy a teacher could reach, not 30 kids in a classroom, but millions of students all over the world. With its digital lessons and simple exercises, he's determined to transform how we learn at every level. One of his most famous pupils, Bill Gates, says Khan -- this "teacher to the world," is giving us all a glimpse of the future of education. Whatever Khan’s limits, his site has become extremely popular. More than 2 million users watch his videos every month, and all told they answer about 15 questions per second. Khan is clearly helping students master difficult and vital subjects.

"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life. Think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success. That is way great spiritual giants are produced." and that's what Salman khan has done to its brain child "The Khan Academy"
